Keeping up with the Jones’!

2010 Labor Day Conference

Do any of you have the same information overload that I suffer from?  When I talk about keeping up with the Jones’, I don’t mean whether your car matches their car, or your house is as nice as their house.  I just mean how do you keep up with the information that bombards us from every Tom, Dick and Harry (OK, or Jones) that is out there.

All of us inevitably develop some pattern of screening what information we will look at and what we just don’t have time to handle.  I know that at House2House we try to answer every email that comes to us.  Sometimes that is a daunting task.  Sometimes it can be repetitive, and so we have learned that sometime a set answer to common questions on the FAQ page on our website would be a better use of time.  In other instances, to make things much more efficient, we have used technology, for example to help people find a church near them, which can be done at this link. (Please add your group if it’s not already on the list!)

We feel that a part of our role at H2H is to help make it easy for you to find up-to-date information about things going on in the house church world.  I wonder how many of you know of Maurice Smith’s new book, “All Dogs Go To Heaven – Don’t They?”  You can find out more about this in this week’s story.  This is an important topic that you may want to explore.

There is also a very short survey on the home page at the moment where we would really value your input.  Why not fill it out right now and help us as we try to serve.

Most of you who have read this e-letter for long know that my goal is to keep it to 60 seconds of reading each time that it comes out.  That is why I include lots of links to useful articles and sites, so that it is up to you how much time you spend with this letter.  Don Davis, and the folk at www.house2harvest.org, who we work very closely with, are developing a major thrust to help house churches connect with an unreached people group.  If you want to know more, why not look at his latest newsletter, which you can read here.

Friends in Finland have made an extensive series of interviews/teaching sessions with Wolfgang Simson which they have called the Starfish Kingdom Discovery Series.  If you want to know when these are being screened on Internet TV, or when they will be available to receive on DVD, then email Heikki at this link.

Also available is this interview of Felicity Dale about her latest edition of An Army of Ordinary People.

Enjoy the resources, and don’t forget to register for the National Conference coming up in just about one month.

Please pray for Felicity and I as much of the next six weeks is tied up with various house church movements and conferences around the world.

Tony and Felicity and the H2H team.

Jesus Manifesto: Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ JUST ADDED!

By Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola

Christians have made the gospel about so many things—things other than Christ. Religious concepts, ideas, doctrines, strategies, methods, techniques, programs, and formulas have all eclipsed the beauty, the glory, and the reality of the Lord Jesus Himself. On the whole, the Christian family today is starved for a real experience of the living Christ. We know a lot about our Lord, but we don’t know Him very well. We know a lot about trying to be like Jesus, but very little about living by His indwelling life. “Jesus Manifesto” presents a fresh unveiling of Jesus as not only Savior and Lord, but as so much more. It is a prophetic call to restore the supremacy and sovereignty of Christ in a world—and a church—that has lost sight of Him. Read this book and see your Lord like you’ve never seen Him before.

What’s With Paul & Women? JUST ADDED!

By Jon Zens

1 Timothy 2:11-12 has been used as a “clear” mandate to silence women in the church for over 1500 years. In What’s With Paul & Women? Jon Zens exposes the fallacies of this interpretation, and opens up the meaning of 1 Timothy 2:9-15 using insights gleaned from the Artemis-saturated Ephesian culture where Timothy was left to stand against false teaching (1:3). Going beyond 1 Timothy 2, this book covers the major issues in gender inequality with three Appendices: one on the Ephesian social world in which 1 Timothy was written, another on 1 Corinthians 14:34-36 and an extensive review of John Piper’s What’s the Difference? Manhood & Womanhood Defined According to the Bible. If 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34-36 have puzzled you, What’s With Paul & Women? will help in your quest to discern the mind of the Lord as the gender debate continues.

All Dogs Go To Heaven Don’t They? Just out – order now, shipped this month!

by Maurice Smith

In All Dogs Go to Heaven . . . Don’t They? Maurice Smith uses his extensive years of scholarship to tackle a complicated and difficult subject that affects all of us — what happens to people after death. He writes with humor and clarity to make the Biblical position very plain and to refute the theory that everyone will eventually end up in heaven — however attractive a concept that might be. I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about holding a Biblical position on the subject.” – Felicity Dale, author An Army of Ordinary People and co-author The Rabbit and The Elephant.
