2010 Labor Day Conference
8 days left for Early-bird rate!

Christians are no strangers to war and to warfare.  So we understand the challenges and the sacrifices that soldiers make and we appreciate the love of country that causes men and women to be willing to lay down their lives for their country.  In fact Jesus taught us that unless one is willing to sacrifice your life for Him and His kingdom, then you are not even fit for the kingdom of God.

Back when some of us were much younger, many of the countries in which we were brought up (in my case both in Taiwan and in England, and until the Vietnam era, in the United States as well) considered it mandatory for young people to serve for a couple of years in the nation’s armed forces, or if the person concerned was a “conscientious objector” then they had the option of serving in a peaceful capacity in something like the Peace Corp.

How times have changed!  If any tried to bring back national service or the draft in either England or the States, they would be shouted down so fast.  Nobody views it as an obligation to fight for their country any more.  If anything people rather look down on those who choose to go into the military as if that implied that the person is not peace-living, but is rather belligerent.

How quickly the lessons of history are lost.  Any nation that refuses to defend itself is not likely to stay free for long.  Even a country that is celebrated for it’s neutrality, such as Switzerland, still actually mandates that each of its citizens must be willing to fight to defend the country’s neutrality .

It is no different in the spiritual realm.  We have even been looking at some of the issues tied up with spiritual warfare in recent editions of this e-letter.  Whether we like it or not we are at war.  Satan has not changed his plan or his tactics.  He has still “come to steal, to kill and to destroy.”  And Christ came to “ destroy all of the works of the evil one.”  So pray for those that you see in the spiritual front lines, and don’t just watch when people get wounded.  Go to their aid.  Stand with them.  Build them back up.

I am just going to mention one other thing in this newsletter today:  On June 1st, Frank Viola’s new book, co-authored with Leonard Sweet) is released!  Jesus Manifesto is discounted at Amazon.com on Tuesday, June 1st. “Unite the Tribe” and order from Amazon. Here is the link.  Let’s help take this book to the top of the best seller lists!

Blessings our this national day of remembrance, and get in the fight!

An Army of Ordinary People We match Amazon’s Price!

by Felicity Dale

An Army of Ordinary People contains the key to explosive, transformational, 21st century evangelism. Renowned church planter Felicity Dale shares stories of how God has always used—and is still using—ordinary believers to carry out his work in simple ways throughout the world. Some of these stories are dramatic—people being led to the Lord by the friends who counseled them through drug addictions and criminal pasts. Some are everyday—a dad spending his Sunday teaching Bible lessons to his kids, or a couple inviting their neighbors over to dinner and a spiritual discussion. But in each of them, there is a light bulb moment, when someone just like you thinks I can do that! And as a result, the gospel is spreading . . . and lives are being changed.

The Rabbit and The Elephant We match Amazon’s Price!

By Tony & Felicity Dale and George Barna

Today’s Western culture is indifferent to church and Christians. Yet the early church existed in far harsher conditions—and it thrived. Much like a new litter of rabbits, the infant faith quickly grew and spread. And the result was a world transformed.

In The Rabbit and the Elephant, Tony and Felicity Dale (Simply Church) and George Barna (Revolution) say that the same thing is happening today. As Christians, we are the church – whether we meet in office buildings, college dorm rooms, coffee shops, factories, or homes – and the Holy Spirit uses us to expand that church to the far reaches of the globe. By practicing “simple church,” we’ll find that a small gathering of friends loving Jesus together and reaching out to the community around them can help us to be the church, the way God intended.

The rabbit and the elephant. Something small and something big. Find out what lessons they hold for you, for the body of Christ, and for the future of church as we know it.
