2010 Labor Day Conference
23 days left for Early-bird rate!

(I need a time out from this warfare stuff, but I’ve looked at the opposition, and they don’t seem to be interested to take time off!!)

Daniel 7:25 tells us that the devil will try to “wear out” the saints.  The word for “wear out” is also translated as “oppress.”  We seem to have been under pretty relentless attack over the past two months in all sorts of ways.  Alongside what I have been writing in these newsletters about Spiritual Warfare, Felicity has been blogging about the role of women in ministry.  Since she began, we have noticed significant challenges to us as a family.  Coincidental?  Maybe, but I doubt it.  The timing seems to remarkable to fit that description!  I had to go on our recent mission trip alone because of these challenges to us and our kids, especially the women in our family.  Then I got sick in India with laryngitis.  You try speaking 4-5 hours a day with no voice.  It is exhausting!

Don’t get me wrong.  I am not complaining, but I am paying attention, because we are taught in the word “not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices.”  Until you recognize the enemy at work, it is hard to fight against his attacks in prayer and praise.  And don’t think that in battle there is never any risk of injury.  It is just that as soldiers of the King we need to make our decision that we are going to keep fighting anyway!

Jesus told us that those who desire to follow Him will suffer persecution.  This comes in various forms.  Back in our medical school days the persecution was mainly in the form of mocking by our fellow students.  Often we read in the New Testament of mocking or tormenting spirits attacking people.  Learn to understand the attack is not usually from the people, but from the demonic forces that many have inadvertently (and occasionally on purpose) allowed themselves to be influenced by.  “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6).

I have mentioned before the persecution that the enemy put us under when he almost found a way to bring our business down, and us with it!  But now the attack seems much more on the family.  So what do we do.  Well we fight back!  “Resist the devil and he will flee.”  (James 4:7)  Does he flee immediately?  Sometimes Yes, and sometimes No.  So keep fighting, and learning how to be more effective in the battle.  If you want to have an impact, you will face opposition.  Sometimes from people.  Sometimes from circumstances.  And sometimes clearly from demonic entities.  Whatever the source, fight back with the spiritual weapons at our disposal.

Now to some quick announcements:

Blessings, and I will try to get the next newsletter out faster.  Pray that we are not hindered – the warfare is real!

An Army of Ordinary People We match Amazon’s Price!

by Felicity Dale

An Army of Ordinary People contains the key to explosive, transformational, 21st century evangelism. Renowned church planter Felicity Dale shares stories of how God has always used—and is still using—ordinary believers to carry out his work in simple ways throughout the world. Some of these stories are dramatic—people being led to the Lord by the friends who counseled them through drug addictions and criminal pasts. Some are everyday—a dad spending his Sunday teaching Bible lessons to his kids, or a couple inviting their neighbors over to dinner and a spiritual discussion. But in each of them, there is a light bulb moment, when someone just like you thinks I can do that! And as a result, the gospel is spreading . . . and lives are being changed.

The Rabbit and The Elephant We match Amazon’s Price!

By Tony & Felicity Dale and George Barna

Today’s Western culture is indifferent to church and Christians. Yet the early church existed in far harsher conditions—and it thrived. Much like a new litter of rabbits, the infant faith quickly grew and spread. And the result was a world transformed.

In The Rabbit and the Elephant, Tony and Felicity Dale (Simply Church) and George Barna (Revolution) say that the same thing is happening today. As Christians, we are the church – whether we meet in office buildings, college dorm rooms, coffee shops, factories, or homes – and the Holy Spirit uses us to expand that church to the far reaches of the globe. By practicing “simple church,” we’ll find that a small gathering of friends loving Jesus together and reaching out to the community around them can help us to be the church, the way God intended.

The rabbit and the elephant. Something small and something big. Find out what lessons they hold for you, for the body of Christ, and for the future of church as we know it.
